A new day of hope rises in Hungary
Hungary elects Péter Magyar's TISZA party with supermajority to replace 16-year Viktor Orban reign.
A new beginning
For the first time in 16 years, Hungary has elected new leadership. Not only have its people made their voices clear, but they have also made them heard, with a record-shattering 79.33% turnout (reported as of 22:13 CEST on the 12th of April) in the 2026 Hungarian parliamentary election. The TISZA party not only blew Orbán out of the water, but also managed to secure a supermajority — an incredible feat that will expedite its return to the European Union funding framework, which will bring prosperity and a better life for all Hungarians.
I welcome this new government and wish Péter Magyar the very best. I sincerely hope that he will represent every single Hungarian faithfully and to the best of his ability. From the few speeches and interviews of his that I have watched, I have only heard positive things. Therefore, I am highly confident that he will turn this sinking ship of a Hungarian government around.
Long live Europe, and long live Hungary — the country that I will always love dearly, and one that I have to thank for much of my family’s early financial prosperity during the period when my dad worked at Ford in the early 2000s. If the Hungarian division of Ford had not taken a chance on my dad, there is a decent chance that I would never have had a life nearly as good as the one I ended up having. To this very day, my dad speaks fondly of Hungary, Budapest, and Ford. He is still thankful for the opportunities they offered him — but do not get it twisted, my dad maximized that opportunity and made the most of it. An opportunity is only as valuable as you make it.
He drove every single weekend from the south of Slovenia all the way up to Hungary for the job, which was a tremendous sacrifice. I hope to visit Budapest with my dad soon, and I wish that our dear neighbouring country will have a very bright future and that its people will enjoy a much better life than they have had under the previous regime.
With utmost love for Hungary and its wonderful people, Alex.
