Automation without run limits: Starlex rules vs Automation for Jira

Event, scheduled, SLA and manual automation rules with no monthly run allowance, compared with Jira Cloud automation.

4 min read

Automation removes the small chores: assigning new bugs, closing stale issues, pinging someone when a deadline slips. Jira Cloud includes Automation for Jira with a monthly allowance of rule runs that depends on your plan. Starlex rules have no monthly allowance to watch.

Four kinds of triggers

  • Event rules react to changes: an issue created, moved, assigned, flagged or reprioritised, or a new comment.
  • Scheduled rules run once a day.
  • SLA rules fire when an issue breaches its resolution target.
  • Manual rules appear as actions people can run on an issue.

What rules can do

Actions cover the everyday chores: assign the issue, change its status or priority, add or remove labels, flag it, comment on it or set a due date a number of days ahead.

Reliable by design

Rules run from an ordered log of issue events. A failed rule does not stop the others, and nothing is counted against a quota, so you can automate freely.

Connect the rest

For anything outside Starlex, signed webhooks with retries deliver events to your own services, and personal access tokens let scripts call the API.
