A swimlane is a horizontal row on a Kanban board that groups cards, for example by person, epic or priority, so different streams of work are easy to tell apart.
Columns show where work is in the process; swimlanes show whose or what work it is. Together they turn a busy board into a grid you can read quickly.
Common ways to split
- By assignee, to see each person's load.
- By epic, to see progress on each goal.
- By priority, with an expedite lane for urgent work.
