Project management glossary

What is a project roadmap?

A project roadmap is a high level visual plan that shows the major goals, phases and deliverables of a project over time.

A roadmap is less detailed than a schedule. It communicates direction and priorities to stakeholders, often in quarters or months, and is built from epics or initiatives rather than individual tasks.

Roadmap vs Gantt chart

A roadmap answers "what and why, roughly when". A Gantt chart answers "exactly when, and in what order".
