Timeboxing is setting a fixed amount of time for an activity in advance and stopping when the time is up, instead of working until the task feels finished.
Timeboxes create focus and stop perfectionism. Sprints are timeboxes, and so are fifteen minute stand-ups and one hour retrospectives.
Example
A team gives itself a two day timebox to investigate a new payment provider. At the end it decides with what it knows, instead of researching for two weeks.
